I was on the radio!
I know it’s Molly’s day, but I had to share this.
During my lunch hour, I heard Patt Morrison on KPCC discussing whether or not Hurricane Irene was “a big deal.” I called in and answered a question on air!
Incidentally, talking on the radio is REALLY nerve-wracking.
You can hear me by clicking here. I come on about three quarters of the way through.
In case you hate...
Come on, Irene.
The Gallagher household still does not have power but Brittany and I are currently in Barnes and Nobles charging people’s phones. We are sitting on the ground in the “graphic novels” isle and getting odd looks from people. I can’t really do a post because what I wanted to do is saved on our computer at home that is not working. But I managed to awkwardly capture my feelings...

#STORMWATCH
Still no power after 24 hours but we have some pictures of the damages around town. No one was hurt as far as we know, but there are downed power lines, fallen trees, a very unlucky fence, and one VERY lucky Stop Sign.
Since we have no power Molly probably won’t be posting today, but I think we can let that slide.

#STORMWATCH
At 10:45 PM EST we had our first power flicker. The TV didn’t work for a few seconds after and Molly began to panic. Don’t worry… we still have TV.
#STORMWATCH
So the actual hurricane won’t be hitting us for few hours. But this anticipation is killing me. A twitter friend @RunitsaPirate put it best with this song… even though the name is wrong.

Gallaghr Magic 8-Balls
In my last post, I talked about the latest fad among celebrities: magic 8-balls that always give the same, oddly specific reply. Well, the Gallaghers aren’t celebrities, but that hasn’t stopped us from getting in on the trend.
This one is mine:
This is Brittany’s:
And Andrew’s:
Molly’s “Jake and Amir” themed ball:
And, of course, Joe’s:

Celebrity Magic 8-Balls
I work near Hollywood, so I occasionally get access to celebrity gossip. I recently learned that the latest celebrity fad in Hollywood is to use special magic 8-balls. What’s so special about them? They always give the exact same oddly specific answer.
The fad started with Mr. Rogers, who used to ask his magic 8-ball what he should wear that day.
Since then, many celebrities have adopted the...

There’s no real winner in Jumbo Fluffy Bunny. — Brittany
– Brittany said this in the video she posted this week. In her own, idiosyncratic way, Brittany nicely explains the dangers of arms racing and one-upmanship.
Alternatively, this is a great summation of the dangers of hubris, or why one should not (wait for it) bite off more than one can chew.

I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)
In every relationship there must be compromise. In romantic relationships, finding a way to compromise is essential, otherwise you’ll be stuck on the Lonely River without a paddle. And you know what’s in the water? Sharks. It’s shark week on the Lonely River and you’re wearing a Life-Jacket made of raw steak.
So yeah, compromising is important to dating.
BUT over the...
As Camp Gallagher continues, a game of Fluffy Bunny is attempted. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately), jumbo marshmallows and tiny mouths makes for a very short game.
“Jumbo marshmallows are at least twice the size of a regular marshmallow and very fluffy.” - Claire’s expert and scientifically sound commentary after a real life experience. She’s burping over me right now. I...

Camp Gallagher!
This week our younger cousins, Claire, Caroline, and Nora, are staying at “Camp Gallagher”. Camp Gallagher is probably the best thing ever. Be jealous. The girls are staying with us for a couple days and we’re doing all these exciting and fun things.
Today, we went to the beach for a couple hours. Of course, the girls needed to bath after their outing since the water makes you...

Famous People Are Emo
I’m back in New York this weekend, and as usual, hilarity is ensuing. Earlier today, Brittany pointed out a magnet on the fridge, which depicted Jesus saying, “I will write your name in my heart, where it will never be blotted out.” To this, Brittany added a sticky note saying, “Don’t be emo, Jesus.”
The humor of this has been debated, but I think it’s hysterical. Thinking about all of this...

Thursday has come and gone. And much to everyone’s expectation, Andrew did not post. Again.
The ratio of Andrew’s posts to Andrew’s not posts is probably around 1:1. We’ll have someone crunch the numbers and get back to you.
I work in New York City. It’s pretty awesome. The city has everything imaginable. Other short sentences.
But as great as Manhattan is, the city does have its setbacks. The downfalls of NYC include:
You have to be careful at nighttime. Anything could happen. You could get run over, pick-pockted, um fall down a man hole, …bump into people, murdered. Imagine that! Or even just...
Life Changing.
There is a fantastic website called “Stumbleupon” where you literally stumble through the most random things. To many, this may sound childish, stupid, and/or “dumb”. But to me, it is a whole new world. If you have nothing else to do but waste four hours on the computer, this is where the time will be well spent. Trust me, I would know. You can stumble through your...

The Berlin Wall Would Have Been 50 Years Old...
In Europe, the most complicated history of the last hundred years took place in Germany.
Two world wars, one of which the Germans could be blamed for starting, and a divided country made for a tragic century. Yet unbelievably, Germany is now the most robust and powerful economy in Europe.
I continue to be fascinated by the German-speaking world for many reasons. Germans make up some of modern...

Sockpuppets and Jim Halpert in a bikini. Hello...
Clever social media campaigns. Advertising full of awesome. Having full conversations with Molly that she doesn’t remember because she was asleep. These are all personal favorites. I don’t have any footage of the last one so instead I’m going to share some favorites of the first two. But Molly’s future college roommates take note: talk to Molly while she’s half asleep, especially in the morning,...

A Post In Which Flyover Country Is Completely...
A while back, I wrote a post about two different Gregs: Greg in California (GiC) and Greg in New York (GiNY). What I didn’t mention in that post was the answer to the main question I get about these two Gregs: which one is happier?
Put another way, do I prefer New York or California? Like so many things in life, the answer depends on the circumstances. One of the main factors affecting my...

Best Movie Trailers for the Little Kid Inside Us
I have been toying around with the idea of doing a post about the best movie trailers, and I had a few concepts in minds. I had trouble picking one because it was hard to to pick one criteria that “the best” movie trailers would have in common. Are they the best because how it was edited together? Best because it made us want to watch the movie? Best because of the context of the time...

The Internet Is A Playground (otherwise known as...
Yes, a long title was needed.
This is what I know about David Thorne:
He’s a man
He’s an Australian man
He’s an Australian man who writes satire
He’s an Australian man who writes satire and is actually funny
This is his website.
This is also sort of his site.
Both are worth checking out for a laugh. Don’t like laughing? Well then, go to his site, read his...

With over 750 million active users worldwide, Facebook is undoubtedly the largest social networking service in the world. Everyone and their mother has a Facebook (including the five “gallaghr’s”).
It’s no secret that Facebook is far from private. There is no where to hide on the internet. Even when you’re being told that your content has the best “privacy...
